Born in 1972, Anders is a relatively young knife maker from a small village on the west coast of Sweden. He is a quiet individual but his work speaks volumes for his artistic interpretation. Since an early age is has been making knives as a hobby and started serious knife making in 1999. He has learned largely from books and trial and error. Some of his instruction has also come from the Swedish knife makers in his area.
Hedlund’s specialty is custom folders with an eye for the upscale. He also makes some of the most impressive leather and wood presentation boxes I have ever seen. His leather work show cases hand cut leather patterns. The tops of his boxes are made with intricate patterns in a Swedish traditional motif. His boxes alone could be classified as art.
Anders remarked, “I use the only the finest materials both in the handle and steel. I buy Damascus from Sweden’s best Damascus smiths.”
Hedlund mentioned that design is extremely important even before work begins, “The lines must be flawless during the drawing phase or else the knife will never be made. I see myself as a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to my knives.” Many of his knives feature desert ironwood, fossil mammoth ivory and mother of pearl. He spends a lot of time with each individual knife and it shows.
Anders enjoys all types of fishing and spending time with his new family and beautiful wife, Pernilla.
