The craftsmanship of the Fantoni HB 01 Limited Edition CPM-S125V Black Tactical Folding knife is apparent at first glance and even more evident when you handle the knife. Designed by William W. Harsey, this folding knife has a long blade with a top false edge and provides the user with a large 4 ¼-inch blade for heavy use. Blade is constructed from CPM S125V! Each knife is individually numbered 1-50.

The spearpoint blade is stonewashed and consists of American made stainless CPM-S125V stainless steel with Fantoni and Harsey markings. Featuring dual titanium thumb studs, this knife opens ambidextrously and the folder has an index finger guard that helps to protect your hand when the knife is in the open position.

The textured black G-10 handle slabs are built on the extra thick titanium liners and has barrel spacers for easy cleaning access with weight reduction. The rear of the knife has a lanyard hole and reversible titanium pocket clip. The blade size of this Harsey-designed knife is 4 ¼-inches and the total size of the knife is 9 ½-inches. Fantoni Knives has produced hunting, diving and tactical knives since 1980.

The HB-01 Limited Edition CPM-S125V is a combination of quality American materials, precision Italian manufacturing and timeless Harsey design.

5  Fantoni HB-01 special edition - excellent knife, Fantoni HB-01 CPM 125V Steel Limited Edition Folding Knife - Black G-10

I collect knives made of special steels, like zdp-189, etc. And when I came across Fantoni HB-01 special edition s125v steel, I could not resist.
The knife arrived very fast and it had made an excellent New year gift.
The quality and construction is above all praise, it is a truly state of the art knife.
The blade's finish is smooth and silky by touch and it feels like it is laquered. The handle is solid and sits very comfortably in hand. The blade opens easy with soft and pleasant click. You may open it using either a stud on the blade or with a help of a small stub on top of the handle - either way the knife is very quick to open. The blade fixes by a liner lock, and it doesn't wiggle or rattle when opened. I've read that some reviewers feel like the liner lock is not solid enough, but it is definitely not flimsy and since it does not experience significant pressure during normal use, the whole construction is solid.
The knife arrived presharpened, that is, sharpened enough to cut hairs, and since as I read that s125v is particularly difficult to sharpen, I am going to use it as it came.
In the next weeks I am going to put the knife through its paces and to compare it with other knives with blades with similar hardness - 61-63 rockwell, especially with zdp-189.
Overall the knife exudes the feel of confidence and solidity.
The only dissonance was flimsy cardboard box the knife arrived in - for many, I am sure this knife is a piece of art and many buy these knife for collection, like myself, so, something more sturdy and representative would be in place, but still the box does its job, it holds the knife well inside in a layer of foam, and the knife arrived without any scratches.
Overall, I am delighted to have a knife like this. It became a nice addition to my collection. And taking into consideration the limited edition, my sample has 031/16 number out of the batch of 50, and a rather rare and special steel of its blade, I feel that the price is fully justified.

5  Best production edge retention available!, Fantoni HB-01 CPM 125V Steel Limited Edition Folding Knife - Black G-10

Pairing an aerospace engineer with knife maker to the special forces makes one bad looking fighting knife with unreal tolerances. The tolerance are so tight the titanium liners are so clos to the blade that a piece of paper would barely fit between them and even loosening the pivot doesn't allow the blade to touch the liners and keeps perfectly centered while remaining the insanely light. Once this knife locks up there is absolutely no play and feels like you have a fixed blade in your hand. This is the only knife I've ever had that has completely felt that way. The G10 scales grip your hand and the jumping on the blade and handle allows for unlimited different grips. The clip rentetion is great. I have custom made blades, like a Phil Wilson, that will hold an edge longer than this knife but there are no production knives out there that would and there shouldn't be a need for a longer lasting edge on any pocket knife because this edge lasts and lasts and lasts. That's what the worlds best stainless steel (for holding an edge that is) gets you. Everyone has heard the old argument of stainless knives vs. carbon knives but this knife has more carbon than a carbon knife and more vanadium than Spyderco's K2 in CPM 10v or Lionsteel's own Molletta made K390 Tre (the only competition in edge retention out there and I own both and they can't keep up). CPM S125V cuts differently than any other steel I've encountered from K294 to S30V. It's like it wants to eat cardboard or slide like grease lightning through wood. The knife locks up and feels like a tank without having a super thick blade or scales although being new the lock sticks but it is already working its way out. This knife is like a midtech knife with a custom steel and custom tight tolerances. All this is the reason the price is so high. You will never see this steel in another production knife and only a very few custom knife makers use it. Bottom line this knife is a joy to flip, use, hold and show off and it looks good doing it.

Everything about this knife is well done. It is a good knife - breath taking edge. I will carry it. The only downside for the high price of this knife is the lock - liner lock has been improved on by newer designs. This knife should have a newer blade lock design.
