Perry knives are made with exceptional skill and precision. John mainly makes folders, but has made straight knives of all kinds. John was awarded the "Folder of the Year" at the Atlanta Blade Show in 1996.

Why make knives? "For me it is having a legacy, one thing that is going to outlive me. I enjoy both creating and making knives. I can look at a peice of steel and see a knife in it. I enjoy working with new materials. It is just fun."

What is important in a knife you make? "Everything has got to fit, everything has got to work properly. I would never mix materials that don't go together. The material and knife should be balanced. The knife should be perfect and interesting to look at. I keep on doing new things with my knives."

What is your knife making history? "I started in 1990 with straight knives and progressed to folders 5 years ago. I needed to have something that is more of a challenge. I have moved to a slim folder design. Since I am a full-time tool maker, I understand and enjoy working with metal."
