In the ancient world, the name "seax" (pronounced as "Sax") was synonymous with Knife, deriving from the Old English. In the Early Middle Ages, the Saxons were known by this fearsome blade and the very name of their people was taken from the word for this knife. The shape of the folding seax features a long, straight cutting edge that angles back to the spine of the blade along another sharpened edge, giving it a very sharp point with a lot of strength behind it. Once used in the design for swords and long knives, this shape finds itself in a modern folding knife designed by Ernest Emerson.
Crafted from American-made 154CM stainless steel with a Rockwell hardness of 57-59 RC, the seax knife's 3.9" full-size blade is sharp along nearly the length of the blade, giving you a wicked, yet effective point. The blade is satin finish, giving it a luster that resists scratches as well as creating a surface that is stunning. The .125" knife stock is V-ground with a chisel edge that sharpens down to a razor sharp edge which will not easily dull over a long period of use.
This USA made knife has a versatile opening and carry options. You can open the seax knife one-handed thanks to the thumb disc mounted on the top of the blade as well as the patented Emerson wave opening feature that is mounted just behind the thumb disc. Using the wave feature and removing it from your pocket provides a quickly available blade. The pocket clip keeps the knife at the ready and secure in your pocket - or can be removed for deep pocket carry.
The overall length of the Emerson Seax is 9.0", folding into a The G-10 epoxy/glass laminate handle ensures a great grip in all kinds of conditions, wet or dry. The back of the blade and the handle feature continuous jimping for better thumb and finger control when detailed work counts. Finger holds allow for better ergonomic comfort, yet versatility in how you hold the blade. The titanium liner lock keeps the blade locked safely in place when you need it and the titanium clip is very deep carry for your belt or pocket. At 5oz, you might just forget it's even there...until you need it.
Whether it is tactical use, outdoors, or even a good solid work knife, the Emerson Seax folding knife carries on a tradition hundreds of years in the making. Great blade. Mine came with the burr still on the front 3rd of the blade. Simple fix with a strop. The action is excellent, drops closed and flicks open nicely. Definitely not the standard Emerson action I was used to. Great detent. I was concerned about the handle design but the bump fits the hand very well in edge in and edge out grips.
