The exclusive LionSteel SR1 Damascus Lizard Pattern for KnifeArt is a beautifully crafted folding knife made with strong materials for durability and functional artistry. Measuring a total of 8.25 inches and a weight of 6.9 ounces, this high end folding knife is a suitable carry option for those that want an elegant yet powerful knife.
The 3.7-inch blade with a Rockwell hardness of 60-61 is beautifully designed with Chad Nichol's American-made stainless Damascus steel raindrop pattern, showcasing the look of raindrops on the surface of water. The drop point blade profile allows for ease and control of the blade when it cuts through and penetrates various types of materials. The thumb stub allows for quick and smooth deployment of the blade as well, making it a great carry in situations that need quick response. And the ROTOBLOCK safety system allows the user to lock the knife in the open position when needed.
The frame is constructed from a single piece of titanium, machined and lighly blaste. The integral and replaceable frame lock of the knife is reinforced with hardened stainless steel lock insert and lock up over-extension preventer. The Italian-crafted knife comes in an attractive wooden display box for storage. For carry, the lion steel folding knife comes with a reversable pocket clip and a lanyard hole in the handle. The knife also comes with a utility tool to adjust the blade's tension and remove the pocket clip.

This knife is a beauty. In fact, I do not know of any other knife for the price that is as well-designed and as well-made as Lionsteel SR1. It is very comfortable in the hand, very ergonomic, and the balance with its thick and heavy yet still very nicely proportioned blade is spot-on. There is this uncommon solidity to the knife and its operation – mostly due its monolithic CNC-milled handle, and the fit-and-finish are better than any ‘Spyderco’ or ‘Benchmade’ I have handled. The blade is perfectly centered and very sharp.
The hardness of Nichols Raindrop Damascus blade, to the best of my knowledge, is somewhere between 56-58 RC, which is a bit lower than the 61 RC quoted for their regular Sleipner (=improved D2) blade, but still makes a practical yet far more special knife. If you are a lumberjack and the utility is the only thing on your mind, then indeed you might be better off with a different blade, but for a casual user or a collector, the pleasure of owning the knife as beautiful as it is practical makes it worth every penny. The shape and size of the blade is a classic fixed-blade hunter, with a nice belly and some weight to it, i.e. it is a very good cutting blade.
The knife was shipped and arrived promptly. The only snag was that the website does not ship to NYC, so I had to get it shipped to my relatives outside of the city, which I found rather annoying nuisance, but not a deal-breaker, especially given that they are the only website I know of that carries this particular model of SR1. For now, I would say this knife is a keeper. Hope this helps.
