- verified customerThis knife is a beauty. In fact, I do not know of any other knife for the price that is as well-designed and as well-made as Lionsteel SR1. It is very comfortable in the hand, very ergonomic, and the balance with its thick and heavy yet still very nicely proportioned blade is spot-on. There is this uncommon solidity to the knife and its operation – mostly due its monolithic CNC-milled handle, and the fit-and-finish are better than any ‘Spyderco' or ‘Benchmade' I have handled. The blade is perfectly centered and very sharp.
The hardness of Nichols Raindrop Damascus blade, to the best of my knowledge, is somewhere between 56-58 RC, which is a bit lower than the 61 RC quoted for their regular Sleipner (=improved D2) blade, but still makes a practical yet far more special knife. If you are a lumberjack and the utility is the only thing on your mind, then indeed you might be better off with a different blade, but for a casual user or a collector, the pleasure of owning the knife as beautiful as it is practical makes it worth every penny. The shape and size of the blade is a classic fixed-blade hunter, with a nice belly and some weight to it, i.e. it is a very good cutting blade.
The knife was shipped and arrived promptly. The only snag was that the website does not ship to NYC, so I had to get it shipped to my relatives outside of the city, which I found rather annoying nuisance, but not a deal-breaker, especially given that they are the only website I know of that carries this particular model of SR1. For now, I would say this knife is a keeper. Hope this helps.
