A product of Winkler Knives of Blowing Rock, N.C., the Winkler - AF Survival Knife (Air Force) - Caswell & Micarta is available at KnifeArt. Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler draws the inspiration for the uncompromising survival tools he creates from 18th-century frontier America. He has a wealth of experience working with Special Forces Teams in the U.S. Military.
The Caswell & Micarta AF Survival Knife was designed in conjunction with elite military units at Cannon Air Base. Cannon Air Base is home to the 27th Special Operations Group. It weighs one pound five ounces and has a full length, integral tang. The blade is 8 1/4 inches long and 1/4" inches thick and is made of 80CRV2 Carbon Steel with a black Caswell finish. The blade has flat grinds. Partial serrations on the blade.
The handle, which includes one lanyard hole in the blade and one in the rear of the handle, is made of super-tough contoured black micarta. The overall size of the AF Survival knife is 14 inches long. Whether you use it for camping or self-defense, the handle will not fail you, and the knife is sure to become a valued companion for all your outdoor adventures. A custom felt-lined Kydex sheath is included that is tough and reliable. The sheath features a cut-out notch for rope cutting.

As with everything else Daniel Winkler produces, this knife is fantastic. The thing which really stands out is how comfortable the handle is. The profile and curvature fits the hand perfectly and makes it effortless to hold. The handle also has enough room to move the hand back about two inches to increase the leverage for chopping. The thing that differs the most between this knife and other Winkler knives is the sheath. The kydex used to make this knife's sheath is separated by micarta spacers. This adds room , so extraction and re-sheathing is fast and easy. The downside is that the blade can move around within the sheath, so there is quite a bit of rattling when the knife is shaken. Never the less, overall the knife is definitely worth it.
