Benchmade Knives

Free US shipping on Benchmade orders over $150, and most orders ship the same business day. KnifeArt has been an authorized Benchmade dealer for over 20 years, and our history with the brand goes deeper than most. We were the largest seller of Mel Pardue custom knives, Benchmade scaled his Griptilian design into production, and our founder sat down with Mel for a personal interview in 2010. We only collect sales tax in Arkansas and Florida, and every purchase earns points in our buyer rewards program. When you buy Benchmade knives from KnifeArt, you are buying from a dealer who knew the designers before many of the production knives existed.
About Benchmade Knives
History and Heritage
Benchmade Knife Company was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Oregon City, Oregon. Every Benchmade knife is designed and manufactured in the United States. The company built its reputation on the AXIS lock, a patented mechanism introduced in 1998 that uses an ambidextrous spring-loaded bar to lock the blade open and closed. The AXIS lock remains the most copied locking mechanism in the production knife industry, and Benchmade continues to refine it across its lineup. Benchmade works with a roster of world-class custom designers to develop their production models, and that collaboration with the custom knife world is central to what makes Benchmade distinct from other American knife brands.
Benchmade Designer Collaborations
The two designers most closely associated with KnifeArt's history at Benchmade are Mel Pardue and Warren Osborne. Mel Pardue grew up learning knife making from Ira Cleveland as a child and went on to become one of the most respected custom makers in the country. KnifeArt was the largest seller of his custom knives, and his Griptilian design for Benchmade became one of the best-selling production knives in the company's history. Warren Osborne, born in Australia and working from Waxahachie, Texas, designed the Benchmade 940 Osborne, the Mini Osborne 945, the Contego, and the Proxy before his passing in January 2016. Both designers are part of KnifeArt's story as much as Benchmade's.
Benchmade Folding Knives
Benchmade Bugout Series
The Benchmade Bugout is the lightest full-size folder Benchmade has ever made. The Benchmade 535 Bugout weighs just 1.85 oz. with a 3.24-inch blade, making it the top recommendation for anyone who wants a serious knife they will barely notice in their pocket. The Bugout runs on the AXIS lock with CPM-S30V steel and a Grivory handle in the standard version, with upgraded blade steels and handle materials in the Benchmade Gold Class and special edition variants. The Benchmade Mini Bugout brings the same platform down to a 2.82-inch blade for even lighter carry. The Bugout series has become one of the most popular Benchmade pocket knife choices since its introduction, and it remains our most frequently recommended Benchmade for first-time buyers.
Benchmade Griptilian Series
The Benchmade Griptilian is Mel Pardue's design and one of the most versatile folding knives in the Benchmade catalog. The full-size Griptilian runs a 3.45-inch drop point blade in CPM-S30V, and the Mini Griptilian scales that down to a 2.91-inch blade for tighter pocket carry. The Griptilian features the AXIS lock with ambidextrous thumb studs and a reversible pocket clip, making it one of the most adaptable folders in the lineup, regardless of how you carry. We know this knife from the source. Our relationship with Mel Pardue goes back to his custom knife days before Benchmade ever scaled his designs.
Benchmade 940 Osborne Series
The Benchmade 940 Osborne is Warren Osborne's signature design for Benchmade and one of the most recognizable folding knives in the premium production market. The 940 runs a 3.4-inch reverse tanto blade in CPM-S30V on an aluminum handle, with a slim profile that carries exceptionally well despite its full-size blade length. The Benchmade Osborne has been in continuous production for over two decades. That is a rare thing in the knife industry and a testament to how well Osborne designed it. The Mini Osborne 945 brings the same design language to a smaller platform. We carried Warren Osborne's custom knives before the 940 existed.
Benchmade Fixed Blade Knives
The Benchmade fixed blade lineup covers hunting, outdoor, and tactical applications. The Benchmade Steep Country and Saddle Mountain Skinner are built for hunters, with CPM-S30V blades and lightweight handles. For tactical buyers, the Benchmade Adamas and Bailout fixed blades offer heavier construction and more aggressive blade geometry. Every Benchmade fixed blade is made in Oregon City and backed by the LifeSharp service program.
Benchmade Gold Class and Limited Editions
Benchmade Gold Class knives are the premium tier of the lineup, featuring upgraded blade steels like M390 or 20CV, premium handle materials, and tighter fit-and-finish standards than the standard production models. Benchmade limited edition and Gold Class knives are produced in limited quantities and move fast. The Gold Class Benchmade Bugout and Gold Class Griptilian are among the most frequently requested configurations. We track Benchmade sales and new releases closely and stock these as they become available alongside the standard production lineup.
