About Zirconium (Zr)

The GB click pen is constructed from rare and expensive zirconium metal. The zirconium is machined and finished by heat flaming to a dark black finish. Zirconium, while similar to titanium, provides an extremely hard corrosion resistant material. Zirconium is also significantly heavier than Titanium. Zirconium is known as an extremely hypo-allergenic metal. Zirconium is being adopted as semi-precious jewelry metal and once heat treated has an onyx-like hard black finish. Zirconium's properties also make it an excellent choice in the surgical instrument and biomedical engineering fields.

The GB pen is 5 1/8" long. The GB Zirconium weighs in a 1.6 oz (46 grams) where as the same pen in titanium is 1.1 oz. The GB click thickness is around .420" which is larger than Martin's 375 series at .375". As far as we know, Martin is one of the only pen makers in the world using zirconium (Zr).

The GB pen is perfectly sized and at the same time offers an amazing firm grip in case you are in a close-quarters situation in which you need to protect yourself. The gun barrel style grooves down the body of the pen reduce weight and provide grip at the same time. The pen took a considerable amount of machine time to create and is make of three separate parts.

The pen accepts Fisher Space Pen medium refills that are commonly available at office supply stores. We chose Fisher Space pen refills because Fisher Space PenÆs Sealed Pressurized Ink Cartridge performs in temperatures from -30?F to +250?F, underwater, in zero gravity, at any angleûeven upside down! The GB click uses a high quality German made ball bearing click mechanism. The length of the pen is 5 1/4". Made in the USA by Matthew Martin Pens.

Each pen comes with a bag of high quality rubber O-Rings that can be optionally placed in the grip threads for added comfort and traction.
