Crafted from stainless CPM S35VN steel and protected with a SpartaCoat DLC (flat black) finish and a Kydex lined nylon sheath, this knife can endure the elements as well as any punishment you are willing to dish out. Best fighting knife I have ever come across., May 3, 2020Spartan Blades Ares Black - Black Kydex SheathAs soon as I saw the Spartan Blades Ares, I knew it was "the one". For what it is intended for, it's perfect in every way in my opinion, but these things are very personal preferences. The weight & balance is spot on where it should be. FWIW, I got the black on black with the kydex sheath option, and the left side of the blade had some scratches, but I'm not a collector, or knife polisher, so there was no way I was going to return it. The finish on the blade is somewhat delicate in the sense that it will scratch fairly easily, but this does not bother me at all. Even though it's a very beautiful knife, for me it is a tool first. The retention on the sheath is just right, can be carried upside down under normal circumstances, without coming out, yet pulls out very smooth. This will not be my last Spartan Blades knife, next on my list is the Harsey Dagger.
