The Benchmade 940-1 is the premium edition of the Benchmade 940 series, and it earns that designation on two fronts: the blade steel and the handle material. Warren Osborne's reverse tanto design was already one of the most respected EDC platforms in production knife history. The 940-1 takes it further with CPM-S90V steel and milled carbon fiber scales, two upgrades that make a meaningful difference in real-world carry and use. The blade steel is the headline. CPM-S90V is a top-tier particle metallurgy stainless steel produced by Crucible Industries with extremely high vanadium carbide content. That vanadium is what sets it apart; it forms ultra-hard carbides that give S90V edge retention significantly superior to S35VN. At 59-61 HRC, the 940-1 blade holds a working edge through sustained daily use in a way that lower-grade steels simply do not. The 3.40-inch modified reverse tanto blade is flat ground, stonewashed, and 0.115 inches thick at the spine. Dual ambidextrous thumb studs allow one-handed opening from either hand, and the AXIS lock holds the blade locked and can be released on either side of the handle.
The handle material is the second premium upgrade. Carbon fiber over 410 stainless steel liners with blue anodized aluminum barrel spacers give the 940-1 one of the best strength-to-weight ratios available in a production EDC knife. Carbon fiber is stiffer and lighter than G-10, titanium, or aluminum at comparable dimensions, and the milled texture provides grip without adding bulk or weight. Handle length is 4.47 inches, thickness is 0.41 inches, overall open length is 7.87 inches, and total weight is just 2.44 oz. That combination of genuine cutting capability, premium steel, and sub-2.5-oz. carry weight is precisely what makes the 940-1 the right choice for someone who wants one of the best EDC Benchmade makes. The reversible tip-up black steel pocket clip positions the knife for a clean, consistent draw.

I was always a gun guy never a knife guy. Used a Kershaw Leek for hunting specifically field dressing because that's what a buddy of mine sent to buy and the Kershaw chive for EDC.. I did not know that there was such a thing as a $100 knife at the time and Ashley did more research I kept upset with myself and and early 2015 I saw a picture of zero tolerance is ZT0450 which I thought was absolutely beautiful design but it wasn't going to be available until June and I couldn't wait five months so I ended up getting a Benchmade Valet, then exchanging that in buying the 940 -1; A month later perhaps in March 2015 the CT came out and I of course I bought it and of course the following year they came out with carbon fiber scales and I had said as well so now I understand the obsession.. The way you can tell if you really like something is by what you instinctively reach for and I always reach for that 940 and wall was expensive quality is remembered long after cost is forgotten

Great knife. Very light and easy to handle. When I say sharp I mean sharp. I have already ordered 5 more knives. 2 are here and the other 3 have already shipped. All different styles but 4 are Benchmade and 1 is a Zero Tolerence. Thank You Knife Art. Gotta let the bank account build up a little more and you will be hearing from me again.
Fantastic EDC, August 31, 2015Benchmade 940-1 Carbon Fiber Folding KnifeBenchmade took the already excellent 940 and made it even better. Weight reduction from a carbon fiber frame, an upgraded blade steel from S30V to S90V, all the while the 940-1 retains the qualities that made the 940 a great knife. The blade deployment is butter smooth - almost as good as my William Henrys! The AXIS lock-up is solid, no blade play and perfect centering. With its light weight, this is a knife that disappears once you slip it into your pocket. I've found what is for me, the perfect EDC!

I think the combination of attributes on this knife makes it one of the best Benchmades ever produced. Ultra light with the carbon fiber scales, and slender for inconspicuous carry. The blade design fulfills a wide variety of utility needs while maintaining good strength. The steel is also a fine match. From my own blade testing S90V maintains the keen edge properties of S30V, only it lasts much longer. It isn't as chip and shock resistant as S30V, but much more durable than M390 which chips badly. However, for a knife that is a light cutter, S90V is a perfect match for this knife design. I love this knife, but just be aware that S90V is pretty tough to sharpen on anything other than diamond stones.
