Since Daniel Winkler's work on the 1992 motion picture Last of the Mohicans, some of the designs of these knives hold true to practical standards and aesthetics of a bygone era, in which your life often depended on your knife, and because of this, it needed to be made just right. The WK SD2 Fixed blade carries on a tradition of knives that could serve as a good, sturdy work knife, battle knife, or all other stops in-between.
The 80CrV2 blade has been hardened using Daniel Winkler's preferred method of salt-based heat treating to bring this tool steel up to a Rockwell hardness of 60. The 3 1/4" drop point blade is sharpened to a razor-sharp edge that holds true cut after cut. Jimping along the spine of the black oxide finished blade allows for greater control whether you are skinning an elk or carving wood for kindling.
The overall length of 7" gives your hand plenty of room to grip the handle, which blends the strength of full-tang construction with the reliability of riveted scales. A lanyard rivet at the butt of the handle provides for paracord use as well. Handles are available in a variety of materials, from black 3D sculpted micarta composite, G-10 composite, and your choice of maple or walnut.
It's the right amount & size knife to get the job done. Like your favorite blade on an old school pocket knife this goes further being a fixed blade sheath knife. Feels good in your hand even if they're big like mine. Just short of 4" of quality drop point blade. Sheath design and shape the best I've ever seen! Clip for belt is fully changeable with common #2 Phillips screw fasteners. Not a KBar or fighting knife, it would stand in well need arise. Small compact comfortable on your belt... Unobtrusive!
